NGSSA FAQ

Q: Is it too late to register?
| A: No, it is never too late to register. We put a deadline on our registration forms as a guide for us to plan our coaching staff and field requirements. Please don't hesitate to send your registration in. Teams are filled on a first come first served basis. Girls will be placed on their school team (if space is available) or a team close to your school or home. We always have a spot for your child on one of our teams. | |
Q: Can I register on line?
| A: At this time NGSSA does not have online registration capabilities, however please print a registration form off of our web site, fill it out, and then mail it in as soon as possible (along with payment). | |
Q: Can I hand deliver my registration form for faster processing?
| A: No, the only way that we receive registrations is via our PO Box (address on the form). Girls are placed on teams based on the postmark date on their registration envelope. We pick up registrations regularly from the post office and process them through our league registrar. The names are then passed on to the Division Directors to be placed on teams. This process may take a week or more. | |
Q: When are practices?
| A: Practices can be any day of the week. Practice times will not be determined until the end of February. We try to get practice fields for days and times that coaches request, but with the limited availability of fields, this isn't always possible. Please contact your coach to find out what days and times they are requesting. By the end of February, the coach will know what practice times the team has been assigned. These times are good for the month of March. After March, games will have precedence over practices. Your coach will then keep you informed of practice times during April and May. Some coaches have two practices per week during March, some have one. Please contact your coach to find out how many practices your team will have. | |
Q: When are the games?
| A: Games begin the first week in April, and last through the first part of June. All games are played Monday through Friday. No weekend games, except for the Jamboree and Tournament. All games begin at 6:00 pm, unless agreed to by both coaches ahead of time. There are usually 2 games per week. Sometimes there maybe 3, or 1, or none, but usually there are 2. | |
Q: Can I get a refund?
| A: Refunds are granted if requested in writing by March 15th. |
Q: How many girls are there on each team?
| A: There is a maximum of 15 girls allowed on each team. Sisters play on the same team, as long as there are no more than 15 girls on that team. | |
Q: How many games are there?
| A: Each team usually plays between 11 and 14 regular season games, depending on the number of teams, and how many fields we can get. There are also Jamboree, Tournament, Playoff, and All Star games. Depending on how a team does, will determine how many of these games a team plays. Besides the regular season games, each team will play their one Jamboree game, and a minimum of two Tournament games. | |
Q: Who is responsible for reporting game scores?
| A: The home team's coach is responsible for reporting games scores to the NGSSA score keeper within 48 hours after completion of the game. Failure to do so may result in a loss for both teams in the standings. Please report scores promptly. | |
Q: Are there ties?
| A: Yes, if a game ends in a tie, per the NGSSA rules, it is considered a tie for the remainder of the season. The standings will reflect ties. Ties will be considered 1/2 a win for both teams. | |
Q: What about school event conflicts?
| A: School events takes precedence over games. Games will be rescheduled if a team has a school event that night, such as a play, or a band concert, field trip, or other school sanctioned event. It is very hard to re-schedule games, so please let the scheduler know well in advance if a school event causes a game to have to be re-scheduled. Birthday or slumber parties are not considered school events. | |
Q: Are there any other expenses for the girls besides the registration fee?
| A: The registration fee covers the costs of equipment, fields, administration, etc for the season. A new team jersey and cap is provided to each player, which is the girls to keep at the end of the season. The girls must provide their own softball mitt, and they need to have some sort of cleated shoes. Softball cleats are okay. Soccer cleats are okay. Non-cleated shoes are unsafe to play softball in. Some teams decide to purchase softball pants and socks. It is up to the team to decide how the girls pay for things like this. NGSSA provides the opportunity to purchase team and individual photos, and league sweat shirts and jackets. It is optional for the girls to purchase these items. | |
Q: Are the girls required to sell candy, or raffle tickets or anything else as fundraisers for the league?
| A: No. There are no league fund raisers that the girls are required to participate in. |
